Camp Continued Despite Unprecedented Rain

Despite being tested by a series of incidents, we survived another very wet winter camp at Huish Woods Scout Campsite.

The single entrance to the woods was flooded with water waist-deep causing disruption to the arrival of members. The leadership team closely monitored the flooding 48 hours prior to camp, risk assessed and took all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the young people. After assessing countless options, the team decided they can still make camp work with with adaptations to drop off and collection.

With the unusual start getting through a ‘small’ puddle (Slightly large flood), everyone remained safe, dry and well catered for throughout the weekend, activities continued as planned and the camp was in good spirits.

Another brilliant camp. Paddy was of course filthy dirty, and of course brought me home an assortment of delightful smelling clothes. Gratitude and appreciation to everyone involved. Merry Christmas to all ?

It was the last day of a long term. They were not keen to go out in the dark, wet and cold. But they came home full of beans and stories having had the best time. I don’t know how you guys do it! Thank you from the Ryders xx
